Kubru is the inventor of wine pearls - and also Baden-Württemberg’s latest export hit

Edible pearls originally come from molecular cooking. An entrepreneur from Swabia by the name of Ulrich Brunner came up with the idea of filling them with exquisite wines and spirits. His idea has proved to be so popular that, since the pearls were introduced onto the market, a number of wineries have asked him to bring their wine into pearls and some of them have already won awards for these. Thanks to his excellent contacts, including with the Far East, Kubru GmbH is now also trading more and more on the international stage.

Waiblingen, 29th April 2019 - Kubru GmbH & Co. KG, Germany's largest producer of wine pearls, was founded at the end of 2018 by Michael Kupka, Ulrich Brunner and Markus Grau with the aim of developing and producing high-quality products for the top restaurants.

Ulrich Brunner set the groundwork for the range with his wine pearls, which were already in great demand when the company was founded. Some regional wineries, which had become aware of Herr Brunner's idea at an early stage, seized this opportunity and got him to produce their own pearls. A winery that belonged to Brunner's first three customers recently even received an award for its pearls.

However, Ulrich Brunner did not rest on his laurels. Instead he presented his idea to other wineries all over Germany and also ventured abroad. His numerous contacts from his time in global sales were of great use in the presenting the wine pearls in Asian countries and particularly in China. The increasing demand for sweet wines and exquisite spirits in the Land of the Rising Sun over the last few years has also worked in the company’s favor. If the wine is also presented in the form of pearls, which only release their taste on the palate, it quickly becomes a very popular culinary experience. As a result, Kubru’s wine pearls have managed to secure a permanent place in the restaurant trade in the Far East

Kubru GmbH & Co. is producing an increasing amount of pearls using its own brand, Kubru Pearls. Production capacity for the wine pearls was recently expanded to meet the high demand, so that up to ten million pearls can be produced in Germany every day and even more if necessary. The pearls are packaged in tins - perfectly suited to provide them with protection against impacts but also to preserve their taste in the best possible way. This means that winegrowers, distilleries or other corporate customers receive the authentic and long-lasting taste of their pearls in bespoke packaging.

According to Ulrich Brunner, "Our customer base now includes a large number of producers of exquisite wines and spirits who want to offer their customers something special and stand out from other producers with their own pearls. We also give them the opportunity not only to be present on a restaurant's wine list, but also to strengthen their position in their kitchens and therefore with the top chefs."

With its own brand, Kubru is also increasing the awareness of the pearls by not only offering them to chefs, but also to barkeepers and clubs all over the world. Brunner continues, "We are sure that the pearls will become an established part of fine dining over the next few years - whether they’re used in food or in cocktails.”

When Kubru GmbH & Co. KG was set up last year, Ulrich Brunner was joined by two energetic co-owners: Michael Kupka and Markus Grau. Each of them brings extensive experience in the areas of product management, sales and marketing to the table. They are working together to build the company's global presence and establish the Kubru brand and its products in the major economies right around the globe.
