Deborah Porter-Walker

Smurfit Kappa Recycling, one of the largest recyclers of paper and cardboard in the UK, has promoted Deborah Porter-Walker to the newly created position of national account manager. Martyn Needs has also been appointed to take up her former role as commercial manager for the East Midlands region.

As national account manager Deborah will focus on helping retailers, manufacturers, facilities managers and other corporate customers, as well as local authorities, to actively increase recycling rates. She will also offer broader advice and support aimed at helping larger private sector customers to increase the sustainability of their operations. Her appointment reflects Smurfit Kappa Recycling’s investment in customer care as it seeks to increase its collection and recycling of waste paper and cardboard.

“Deborah has a key role to play in proactively supporting our customers and helping them to make the most of any recycling opportunities,” said Simon Weston, managing director of Smurfit Kappa Recycling. “We are looking to add value to the relationship we have with our national customers and work with them to maximise their recycling in any way we can.”

Following Deborah’s promotion the company has also appointed Martyn Needs to take on her former role as commercial manager for the East Midlands region. Martyn brings over 15 years’ experience in the recycling industry and an in-depth knowledge of his home region. In his new role he will liaise with local authorities, retailers, logistics and distributions operators, printers and wide variety of small to medium sized enterprises across the region to develop Smurfit Kappa Recycling’s paper and board recycling collection business.

As part of the world’s largest fibre-based packaging group, Smurfit Kappa Recycling provides bespoke and sustainable solutions for local authorities, businesses and organisations of all sizes, including recovery of cardboard, office papers and plastics, security shredding and waste disposal. The Group paper mills in Birmingham and Kent reprocess approximately 500,000 tonnes of material per annum, providing a reliable market for recovered paper and card.
