Press release from: Gateway Analytical

PITTSBURGH, April 25, 2011 — Advanced particle characterization methods are critical to identifying the presence of foreign contaminants, as well as changes in morphology and crystal growth in drug substances—both indicators of a drug’s stability and performance. Gateway Analytical will present a workshop titled, “Raman Chemical Imaging for In Vitro Particle Characterization in Inhalables,” on May 4 at Respiratory Drug Delivery Europe 2011 in Berlin, Germany.

Ryan Priore, Ph.D., Director of Applications & Contract Services at Gateway Analytical, will present this 45-minute workshop demonstrating how Raman chemical imaging can be used to study agglomeration, particle interaction, carrier development and foreign particulates, as well as identify polymorphic and hydrated forms of a drug substance. Dr. Priore will also address how utilizing ingredient-specific particle sizing for the development of nasal sprays and inhalation products can contribute to the improvement of overall quality, safety and efficacy.

In addition to the workshop, Gateway Analytical will be exhibiting its chemical imaging and pharmaceutical forensic services.
