Scientists Build HIV Reservoirs & Cure Biennal Research Meeting Program

The Steering and Scientific Committees are pleased to announce the availability of the preliminary program of the 5th International Workshop on HIV Persistence, Reservoirs and Eradication Strategies. The organizers of this workshop include the leading specialist from Europe and the United States in the field of HIV persistence research.

Var, France, April 06, 2011 -- The 5th International Workshop on HIV Persistence, Reservoirs and Eradication Strategies will be held in St. Martin, West Indies from 6th December to 9th December 2011. Right from the time this biennial workshop was started in 2003, it has been a major source for promoting new kind of research against HIV. The workshop is very highly regarded by the international scientific community for the vision of its scientific committee. It regularly attracts more than 150 scientists from all over the world working on this particular aspect of HIV disease.

The main purpose of this workshop is to understand how the HIV reservoirs are established and maintained, and find new ways to control HIV replication without continued antiretroviral therapy. The workshop is divided into different topics that cover the models of HIV persistence (in vitro and in animals), the immunological factors at play, the nature and origin of residual virus on therapy, the biological tools to develop for measuring HIV Reservoirs, and discuss clinical trials that are planned or currently underway to eradicate HIV.

The Steering and Scientific Committees are pleased to announce the availability of the preliminary program of this workshop. This program will comprise selected abstracts proposed by participants along with lectures given by scientific authorities. Once again, it will bring together basic scientists, clinical scientists, governmental agencies and pharmaceutical companies on one common platform which is to find a cure against HIV.

The 5th International Workshop on HIV Persistence, Reservoirs and Eradication Strategies is supported by the French Agency for AIDS Research (ANRS) and several pharmaceutical companies. The organizers of this workshop include the leading specialist from Europe and the United States in the field of HIV persistence research.
