Press release from: Scisense Inc.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March 21, 2011 - Scisense Inc. hosts Dr. Richard Klabunde, author of “Cardiovascular Physiology Concepts”, to explain the significance of pressure and volume changes during the cardiac cycle on cardiovascular function, covering relationships such as ESPVR, PRSW, and EDPVR.

Real-time left ventricular (LV) pressure-volume loops provide a load independent framework for understanding cardiac mechanics in a manner which electrophysiology and dp/dt analysis cannot. Such loops can be generated by real time measurement of pressure and volume within the left ventricle. Many physiologically relevant hemodynamic parameters such as stroke volume, cardiac output, ejection fraction, myocardial contractility, etc. can be determined from these loops.

Dr. Richard Klabunde will explain the pressure and volume changes during the cardiac cycle and the significance of major pressure volume relationships including end systolic (ESPVR), preload recruitable stroke work (PRSW), and end diastolic (EDPVR).

Other topics to be covered include:
• Effects of preload, afterload and inotropy on PV loops
• Generation of PV loops and ESPVR and EDPVR in-vivo
• Examples of abnormal PV loops:
o Heart Failure (diastolic and systolic dysfunction)
o Left Ventricular Hypertrophy and Ischemia
• Summary of importance of PV loops in assessing ventricular function

A good understanding of PV Loops is essential to quality data collection and interpretation of Cardiac Function Assessment. To help you better understand the scientific concepts Scisense invites you to take part in our free PV Loop Web Seminar on March 30, 2011.
