WELTEC BIOPOWER is the producer of the entire process technology including the gas feed-in and gas processing technology for Central Hessia's largest biogas plant in the municipality of Ebsdorfergrund. Construction of the 1.5 MW plant started in March 2011.
Starting from early 2012, biomethane is to be fed into the natural gas grid of ESWE Versorgungs AG Wiesbaden and Giessen PU, generating power and heat for about 3,000 households. Apart from gas processing, the plant concept comprises a separation plant in which digestate is to be processed into humus-forming fertiliser with a higher solids content for easier storage and transportation.
The goal of the municipality of Ebsdorfergrund is to convert the entire energy supply to locally produced regenerative energies by 2020. The Hessians' desire to live and work in an intact environment without nuclear power and fossil energies is also outlined in the municipality's general principles.
To efficiently process about 140 million cubic feet of biogas to natural gas grade, reliable process technology is vital. The chemical amine treatment as applied in Ebsdorfergrund chemically binds the carbon dioxide contained in the biogas to the scrubbing agent amine. In this way, the methane content in the biogas is increased.
A higher methane content of the biogas after the treatment reduces the need for addition of conditioning gas in the feed-in plant. In this way, the overall efficiency of the plant array is increased considerably. The experiences that WELTEC BIOPOWER has made with this process in its plants fully meet the expectations concerning the purity and methane slip.

The project was planned and initiated by the internationally active project development company ALTUS AG from Karlsruhe, Germany, which is specialised in the field of renewable energies. WELTEC BIOPOWER has been supplying ALTUS with its premium plants since 2008. In biogas plants, the quality of the plant components has a direct impact on the stability of the yield. Biogas plants from WELTEC BIOPOWER GmbH are delivered from one source. The proven modular structure enables quick setup. The portfolio of the Lower Saxony-based manufacturer ranges from inexpensive compact systems to waste recycling plants to biogas parks.

German-based WELTEC BIOPWER celebrates ist 10th anniversary and is one of the pioneers of the constructors biogas plants. Based on the modern approach of experienced engineers, the company from Vechta (Lower Saxony) with its expertise of a staff of close to 80, offers complete biogas plants from one source and has developed to a leading constructor of biogas plants in the world.
One of the main strengths of the medium-sized enterprise is the ability to deliver individual and flexible solutions – from compact plants to large computer-controlled plants in the megawatt range, waste recycling plants, and biogas parks with gas processing technology.
The plants have a modular structure. WELTEC BIOPOWER uses only proven system components and develops most of the technologies along the entire value chain internally: fermenter technology, mixing technology, control technology, hygienisation systems, and digestate processing solutions originate from the company.
As the hydrogen sulphide and ammonia compounds contained in biogas corrode unprotected parts, WELTEC builds the fermenters from stainless steel. This ensures a long useful life of the plant. The manufacturing depth also guarantees a consistently high standard regardless of the location and ensures an export rate that is far above the industry average.
In 2010, the plants of WELTEC received the „DLG FokusTest“ certification from the German Agri- cultural Association (DLG) in recognition of their excellent biogas yield.
