COLORADO PREPARES TO JOIN RECORD-BREAKING ‘I AM EQUAL’ PROJECT

Denver, CO – 14-MAR-2011 – Hundreds of people in The Mile High City will welcome the ‘I AM EQUAL’ photo project when international fashion photographer Matt Spencer and campaign creator Jason Beckett visit the Denver area as part of their ambitious tour to collect more than 100,000 photos for their historic human rights & civil liberties project on 19-MAR-2011 at the Hotel Monaco.

“We’re excited to come to Denver and see what this amazing community really stands for,” explains Beckett upon arriving in Colorado Monday morning. “This project allows us the opportunity to meet people who are really standing up and making a difference in their communities by stamping our hunger & homelessness, domestic violence, protecting children, fighting for marriage equality, pushing for immigration reform, crusading for the environment, and countless other issues that affect us all.”

The ‘I AM EQUAL’ project is visiting Colorado as part of the 175-city world tour that began January 5th in Sacramento, California. Ultimately, all of the photos gathered in this project will be arranged together into an enormous mosaic over 8,000 sq/ft and become one of the largest photo essays in history.

“Each person has a story to tell and at least one issue or cause they stand for,” says project photographer and co-founder Matt Spencer. “Our hope is that people will take part in the project and use their photo as a means of opening a dialog with friends and family about those issues and educate others about the causes they care about.”

Participants will start lining up at the Hotel Monaco in Denver at 11:00am for a photo and have until 9:00pm to take part. After a brief registration process, they will get a temporary tattoo on the palm of their hand and stand in front of the camera to make history. The project is open and free to the public and a $20 donation is recommended to support the Global Scholarship Initiative. Those wishing to take part in the project should come camera ready and wear a brightly colored solid shirt for their photo.

“Being part of the project is more than just taking a great photo,” continues Beckett. “These people are making history by stepping up and using this photo as a tool to empower and inspire the world to take more than a passing interest, but to take effective action.”

The I AM EQUAL PROJECT was created by Jason Beckett and fashion photographer Matt Spencer in an effort to empower individuals to speak out about the causes that inspire them. The project goal is to capture more than 100,000 photos of people from all walks of life with the “I AM EQUAL” logo emblazoned on the palm of their hand as a symbol of their commitment stand up for their rights, and the rights of others around the world.
