Christian Gipp, Heilige Nacht, Oil on Canvas

Christian Gipp, Heilige Nacht, Oil on Canvas

Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature a German artist, Christian Gipp, in Contemporary German Art: The New York Experience. The exhibition is scheduled to run from March 25, 2011 through April 15, 2011 (opening reception: Thursday, March 31, 2011).

About the Artist
Christian Gipp is a painter with an imagination as vigorous as his creative energy. His extraordinary compositions unfold before our eyes, with little or no regard for the confines of reality. Everywhere you look there is something to be seen. Glowing alien figures inhabit this foreign realm alongside humans in flamboyant dress while a nuclear haze irradiates the landscape and the skies above. Laser beams of crimson and lime-green zap across the scene ensnaring whatever lies in their path. These are surreal paintings, oversized in both dimension and creativity. “I am fascinated by comparing various levels of reality and by creating a familiar and strange world full of ideas and mysteries,” says Gipp. While there are dramatic events taking place before us, we are but visitors in this world. With disjointed natural laws and unearthly beings we are taken on something akin to a psychedelic journey. This is a remnant of Gipp’s creative approach; he begins each work without a plan and lets the painting evolve on its own.

Gipp lives and works in Grabenstätt, Germany.
