Dissolved Air Flotation

Dissolved air flotation is a water treatment system that is used to remove suspended matter and clarify waste water so that is suitable for re-use or safe disposal. The separation of liquid and solids means oils, greases and other suspended solids are removed in a controlled environment and can be disposed of appropriately.

The removal process involved in dissolved air flotation is achieved by the use of microscopic air bubbles. These bubbles need to be less than 0.1mm in width in order to be effective in the dissolved air flotation system. Put simply these bubbles become attached to the solid particles (matter, grease, oil) that is in the water. The bubbles then float to the surface of the liquid with the solid particles attached.

Because bubbles will float immediately when placed in water the dissolved air flotation system does exactly what its name suggests – dissolves air into the liquid by using pressure. The pressure keeps the bubbles suspended in the wastewater and ensures the particles that lie throughout the liquid attach to the bubbles. The dissolved air remains in the liquid until the pressure is released to atmospheric pressure. This release causes the air to come to the surface and out of the solution in the form of microscopic bubbles. The solids then form a “blanket” over the top of the water which can then be skimmed and removed.

Dissolved air flotation is widely used in a variety of industries for the treatment of industrial wastewater. Some of these industries include oil refineries, petrochemical plants, chemical plants, natural gas processing plants and other similar industrial facilities. The system of dissolved air flotation as been commercially used since the early 1960’s. Since then the systems have been refined and are much more reliable and will continue to advance as new systems and technologies are discovered and introduced.

Baldwin Industrial Systems Pty Ltd has extensive industry experience and know-how when discussing the development and implementation of dissolved air flotation systems. Their experience is unparalleled in this industry. Baldwin’s is committed to their clients and to solving their waste water problems. Their service starts with a thorough evaluation of your process, the components contributing to the generation of waste water, and continues through to equipment selection, design, final commissioning and operation training. By selecting a Baldwin dissolved air flotation unit you can be sure that your wastewater problems will dissolve.

More Releases from Baldwin Industrial Systems

wastewater treatment systems wastewater treatment systems
Waste water is created when factory or mining equipment (vats, tanks, trucks) is cleaned or washed out, or runs off during a machine processing system. The water used to clean and process becomes contaminated and is then referred to as waste water. Special waste water equipment is required to clean this water so that is reusable or can be safely disposed of down sewers. It is illegal to dispose waste water
Waste Water Treatment Systems
Waste water treatment systems involve the mechanisms and processes used when treating contaminated water, or waste water. It refers to water that has been contaminated in some way by anthropogenic industrial or commercial activities, that is the chemical or biological wastes produced as a by-product of human activities. Waste water treatment systems take their effect prior to the release of waste water back into the environment or its re-use. By implementing
Plate Separator
Baldwin Industrial Systems Pty Ltd has supplied over 200 plate separator systems to clients during their 18 years in operation. Baldwin offer two varieties of coalescing plate separators: 1. Small Packaged units, and 2. Large Designed units. These coalescing plate separators are extremely efficient in the removal of oils, greases and suspended solids from waste water. The large systems can be either in in-ground pits or above ground tanks. Each
