Aloha Editor Conference - Open Source Innovation in Austria

Vienna, Washington, Sidney - Prominent international Open Source developers will meet in Vienna between March 21 and 23 2011. Core developers from the Aloha Editor, jQuery UI, Typo3, Drupal, Midgard, OTRS, Gentics, IKS, and others, will gather for three days, to showcase and discuss developments around the innovative, semantic, HTML5-based Aloha Editor.

The Aloha Editor team sets it as a goal to build the world's best online editor for content management systems (CMS) and web applications, with a focus on the best possible usability in online editing—right down to the number of clicks needed for a user to accomplish standard tasks supported by content management systems. The focus, for the development team around Aloha Editor, is not the number of new features, but rather, on deliberate reduction of complexity, and increasing time savings for the user.
Austria's leading content management system vendor, Gentics, started the Aloha Editor project with this goal in mind and provided the developer community with Aloha's innovative underlying technology based on HTML5. For 10 years, Gentics has provided services to successful and notable companies such as the likes of Swarovski, Erste Bank, the Austrian Finance Ministry and A1 Telekom Austria.
"The response from the developer community overwhelmed us," says Haymo Meran, Gentics' CTO, inventor of Aloha Editor and a member of the W3C HTML Working Group. A number of well-known open source content management systems have already adopted the Aloha Editor into their products, and are contributing to its further development. Today, a daily stream of tweets and blog entries are posted about the Aloha Editor, from developers around the world, and the IKS, a European research project on semantic CMS, is collaborating in the field of semantic interaction functionalities.
The Aloha Editor conference will bring together developers from four continents to Vienna. Key topics in their discussion will include new developments for the Aloha Editor on semantic functions around rdfQuery (http://semantic-editor.org), and improving the cooperation in the international development team. In light of its innovative usability concept, and the coming development of semantic-oriented technologies into Aloha Editor, one can see the Aloha Editor emerge as one of the most important content editing technologies in the world.
