Alumni meet at the British International School Kyiv
On the 21st of January British International School alumni visited their alma mater in Kyiv, Ukraine. The young adults met with teachers, discussed their plans for the future and the day’s activities, after which current school students invited guests to an honorary concert.Ukrainian schools usually have alumni meetings in the first week of February. However, the British International School administration decided to invite former students earlier as many of them study at overseas universities and by Febuary they will have already left Ukraine for classes.
The British International School was founded in 1997 and since then it has had 318 graduates. Out of them 183 entered overseas universities. With 48% of graduates successfully finding places in top higher education institutions in the UK, additional students have elected to study in France, Germany, Switzerland, Canada, the USA and other countries.
Many graduates still prefer to receive higher education in Ukraine and enter leading local education institutions. Students of the British International School are free to select where to continue their education; upon graduation they are accredited with the Ukrainian “Atestat” (secondary education diploma) and International A-Level examinations.
“Now that we study at a university in London, we can say for sure, that it was much easier for us to adjust to being here compared with some of our compatriots. We already knew the British education system, were used to communicating with representatives of different cultures and adapted very rapidly to the new environment. We are really grateful to our teachers from the British International School, especially to Vasiliy Petrovich Kobernik, for the inspiring start in life they gave us”, commented Irina Pavlova and Ludmila Bagrayeva, graduates of the British International School.
“We have organised a large scale Alumni ball combining solemn ceremony, a concert and reception for the second year running. Each year there are more and more young people who graduate from our school. I am very happy to see that all of them are successful, studying at reputable universities, working, and making plans for the future. We are very proud that they remember their time here with such fondness and come back to celebrate with us year after year”, tells Olga Zastavna, the General Director of the British International School.
Founded in 1997, the British International School is a member of the European Council of International Schools and is the only educational institution in Ukraine accredited and licensed by Cambridge University as the International Examination Centre. The curriculum combines two educational programs: bi-lingual and international program that was developed based upon the curriculum of Cambridge University and the national curriculum of the UK. The division of teaching into the Bi-Lingual and International programs has allowed the school to provide a much more responsive approach to the requirements of the curriculum. Students who are citizens of Ukraine study according to the Ukrainian curriculum and receive a certificate of full secondary education (Atestat). Students on the International Program study according to the Cambridge Examination Board IGCSE and receive an International Certificate of education (ICE).
