New DST Time Changes Affects Millions of PC Owners

02-19-2007 04:46 PM CET | IT, New Media & Software

Press release from: Pete Egeler

Millions of PC’s will fail to respond to the new Daylight Saving Time changes on March 11, 2007, affecting everything from the operation of heat & air systems, to business calendars and more. The change will touch PC users with business and home systems that operate with Microsoft Operating Systems running Windows 95 through Windows XP (Pro/Home) Service Pack 1.

While Microsoft will offer support to owners of PCs that use XP (Pro/Home) Service Pack 2 & 3, as well as the new Vista OS, all other systems require an upgrade at a cost of $159-$199 per unit.

Older PC systems can be manually changed, but this requires action four times each year in order to keep the PC’s on schedule with the rest of the country. Most PC owners admit they don’t want to go to the trouble of manual changes.

The solution for many PC owners across the country is a software program called DST-Update, the brain-child of Campbell County Resident, Peter Egeler and his partner, Christopher Zak, Sr., of Port Richey, FL.

“DST-Update is a small software program that quickly changes the older PC’s registry so that the internal clock and calendar are in sync with the new time changes,” said Egeler. ‘Once the program is downloaded, users simply open the application, click a button and the change is made. It only takes a few seconds for the whole operation.”

Even though the software has been available since the Fall of 2006, requests for the software have just started to grow over the past couple of weeks.

“It’s typical,’ said Zak. ‘Everyone waits until the very last minute before they make a move to correct a problem. We expect we’ll be very busy between now and March 11, 2007 when the new time changes take affect.”

According to Egeler, in addition to individuals now using the software to correct home computers, they are getting an increasing number of inquiries from small business. Recently a Long Island, NY school district, which needs to update their main system and PC’s in their 13 schools, has requested the assistance of Egeler and Zak.

“Of course you always hope that something like our software takes off like a rocket. But, we knew deep down that this would turn out to be a “last minute” move by many individuals and companies,” said Egeler. “Both Christopher and I anticipate a pretty busy couple of weeks leading up to the actual time change in March.”

More information on the software can be found at DST-Update.com

DST-Update is a software program designed for those still operating on Windows Operating Systems Win95-XP Pro/Home with Service Pack 1. It corrects the clock/calendar system to conform to the new time changes in the US.
