Press release from: Going to the Sun Marketing

/ PR Agency: Going to the Sun Marketing

Whether it’s supplying U.S. warships with the equipment they need to defend our country, or providing companies with the tools to succeed in business, it’s all just another day at the office for Michael Moffitt, president of Going to the Sun Marketing.

Moffitt began his marketing firm six years ago after retiring as a naval supply officer, but not before stints as a business consultant and marketing director for several major U.S. companies. The transition from military man to marketing maven wasn’t as abrupt as the differing career paths might suggest, he says.

“Supplying marketing solutions and delivering military supplies are actually alike in many ways,” explained Moffitt. “They’re both a matter of understanding your client, their situation, and their needs, before trying to solve their problems.”

Going to the Sun Marketing’s president is well-versed in the art of problem solving; one of Moffitt’s assignments was as a “cleaner” of sorts for the Atlantic Fleet’s naval air bases. When something went wrong, the Navy sent him to find out what happened and how to fix it. His military-trained ability to identify the root of a problem, make the necessary recommendations to correct it, and lay out a strategic plan for moving forward, have made Moffitt invaluable to his marketing clients.

“Michael and Going to the Sun Marketing have helped us make dramatic progress in increasing the awareness of our capabilities across our market place,” said Bill Smith, president of Heritage Packaging, a converter of flexible packaging materials in Western New York. “A lot of behind the scenes work has been done on our sales collateral and web sites. This work is now beginning to produce positive results that we measure in the number of inquiries that we receive and jobs that we are awarded.”

The 20-year Navy veteran had dreams of starting his own marketing firm since earning a degree in Mineral Economics from Penn State, and a Masters Degree in Business Management from Central Michigan University. After hiring his son David as his creative director, Moffitt did just that – opening offices in his adopted hometown of Whitefish, Montana, and in Rochester, New York, where the younger Moffitt graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology. Going to the Sun Marketing boasts clients from across the country, ranging in size from a “mom and pop” vacation lodge, to one of the largest organic, dried fruit growers in North America.

“I’ve always wanted to create a firm that was, as I refer to it, a boutique agency,” said Moffitt. "An agency that can do almost everything that a full size agency can do, but is more nimble, and focuses on the small- and medium-sized firms. Many times a small company, if they go with a large agency, won’t get the time or the creative effort that they deserve to help them grow.

“At Going to the Sun Marketing, we pride ourselves on our attentiveness to our clients,” he explained. "We really try to look at each one and often spend days listening to them, and to what they want to do first. We don’t have a ‘one-size-fits-all’ package. Every client receives a marketing plan exactly tailored to them, and their needs, because each market is different – and we understand that.”

Moffitt takes pride in the fact that Going to the Sun Marketing, named after the iconic, signature road that traverses Montana’s Glacier National Park, continues to receive much of its business through client referrals, which he cites as a sign the company is delivering on what it promises.

“If our current clients are saying to business owners they know, ‘Hey, you need to talk to Going to the Sun Marketing for that,’ I think that shows we must be doing something right.”
