Building 21st-Century Skills: Mommy Blogger’s Meet Organised By The Infinity School

Mr. Harinder Chhabra (IIM-A alumnus), growth facilitator and Director of The Infinity School addressing the session.
Mommy bloggers from Delhi, Noida and Noida extension found answers to some common education-related questions, and many more at MomCon: The Mommy Blogger’s Meet, an event organised by The Infinity School, in their Greater Noida (West) campus.
The event was bifurcated into three sessions—
• Session I: ‘Thinking skills—The most sought-after skills of the 21st-century,’ headed by Mr. Harinder Chhabra (IIM-A alumnus), growth facilitator and Director of The Infinity School
• Session II: ‘Schools as learning zones’ conducted by the Curriculum Head Ms. Upasana Bhattacharya
• Session III: ‘Choosing the right school for our kids,’ delivered by the Principal, Mrs. Sangeeta Seth Kapoor.
The sessions addressed many challenges that would be faced by children, educators and caregivers in the future.
Many of the kids currently studying in schools will be joining the global proletariat in the next few years. But are children ready for the ‘big change’? Most importantly, are educational institutions sufficiently equipped to prepare youngsters for the upcoming challenges?
According to Mr. Chhabra, equipping children with 21st-century skills is extremely important for building a better future. The gaps between the skills they’re developing today and the skills they’ll be needing tomorrow, is becoming more profound with time.
Traditional education, which is content-based and not thinking-based, falls short of developing the knowledge required to thrive amidst unimaginable changes in the coming times.
The rapidly changing digital society calls for deeper learning that emphasises more on mastering modern skills with consistent efforts and practice—skills like collaboration, creativity, analytical reasoning, critical thinking, cognitive flexibility, etc., which are developed through emotional, social and self-learning. They ensure a child’s success in the evolving digital economy, also called the fourth industrial revolution.
Modern-day schools need to make education ‘fit’ for the 21st century to fulfil this dream. While each institution is unique, the challenges they face in embracing a change aren’t. By adopting a child-centric approach in learning spaces, pedagogies, curriculum and assessment patterns, schools can make a substantial difference in the growth of their students.
In the words of Ms. Bhattacharya, this approach can be applied flexibly across different scenarios and contexts, by—
• Setting the right goals that support innovation with introspection
• Creating more choices for learning and opportunities for healthy competition
• Offering the freedom to experiment while remaining accountable
• Evaluating progress against appropriate performance indicators and personal standards
• Supporting multiple ideas and achievements, rather than rewarding a single winner.
All of it brought the audience to a common conclusion—the school they choose for their little ones today will influence their personal growth and the skill development process for life. Therefore, it’s crucial for parents to focus on the fundamental criteria for selection, which is, choosing a school that facilitates the discovery and fulfilment of their child’s purpose in life through continuous learning. It’ll lead the young ones to emerge as thought leaders, as well as responsible citizens of the society—a beautiful conclusion drawn by the Principal of The Infinity School, in the closing session.
The informative sessions offered much food for thought to mom bloggers who enthusiastically participated in interactive exercises conducted by Team Infinity, while their munchkins had fun engaging themselves in tricks and tools in the school’s activity room. Discussions and questions followed in the QA round, and over tea and lunch.
The event ended on a positive note for the kids and their moms who went home with radiant faces carrying candies, colourful plants, plenty of happy memories and most importantly, tips and pointers on facilitating their child’s growth through skill development by forming a close and transparent relationship with schools.
The Infinity School based in Greater Noida West is a new school of thought that challenges conventional wisdom and traditional education through a strong belief that it’s possible to develop the fundamental capabilities of a child, with appropriate scaffolding and building the right foundation with values, grit and a growth mindset.
Accordingly, we’ve thoughtfully aligned our infrastructure, facilities, thinking curriculum, faculty and co-curricular activities with our motto ‘Learning to Learn’ which enables our pupils to spend time polishing themselves in the learning space—ultimately affecting their performance in the outside world.
