CHESHIRE CHARITY WINS AN ‘OSCAR’
Cheshire Centre for Independent Living win Skills for Care Accolade Award

Cheshire Centre for Independent Living (CCIL) have won a prestigious Skills for Care Accolade award recognising their excellence in delivering adult social care services to people across Cheshire.
CCIL beat off stiff competition from across England to pick up ‘the best partnership supporting the transformation to personalisation’ award from guest presenter Penny Smith at the Accolades awards ceremony at the Dorchester Hotel, London.

CCIL is a user-led organisation (run by disabled people for disabled people) providing a range of support services driven by the needs and aspirations of disabled people and carers. Their aim is to empower disabled people to direct their own care and promote greater independence, choice and control over their lives.

One of the services CCIL facilitate is an innovative, free, independent and tailor made training service designed by people who direct their own care, for their PAs, in partnership with, the Learning Resource Network, Local Authorities and Training Providers.

This PA training service promotes greater choice and control whilst enhancing the skills of PAs and supporting workforce development for the sector in line with the personalisation agenda. The PA training enables more flexible, personalised and responsive training provision.

The Skills for Care Accolades are now in their eighth year and are known as the ‘Oscars’ of the social care world, rewarding excellence in service delivery to some of the most vulnerable people. The best partnership supporting the transformation to personalisation category was sponsored by Boots.

“Winning a Skills for Care Accolade is a massive achievement, recognising Cheshire Centre for Independent Living as one the best service providers in England, and our judges were impressed by the outstanding quality of the services they provide,” says Skills for Care Chair, Professor David Croisdale-Appleby.

“All too often people can take for granted service providers like Cheshire Centre for Independent Living, but winning an Accolade celebrates the unsung heroes in our communities who, day in and day out, provide high quality services which make a huge difference to the lives of people who use those services and their carers.”

CCIL’s Chief Executive Officer, Lynne Morgan, said “We are very proud of this national award and its recognition of our commitment as a user-led organisation, to delivering services which are shaped and driven by the needs and aspirations of service users. We are also delighted that the Northwest Personal Assistant Register (facilitated by a partnership between Cheshire Centre for Independent Living and Age UK Cheshire) was also a finalist at the Accolades, which further demonstrates the innovative approach to Personalisation across Cheshire”
