Brady Provides Scholarship for Forsyth County High School

GREENSBORO, N.C. (November 29, 2010) — Brady (www.bradyservices.com), a company that provides energy systems and comprehensive building solutions for commercial and industrial facilities across North Carolina, announced today a $500 scholarship in honor of Don Martin PhD., superintendent of Winston-Salem/Forsyth Schools. The scholarship will be given to a Forsyth County high school senior who plans to enroll at Forsyth Tech.

Jim Brady, president of Brady, announced the scholarship at the Winston-Salem/Forsyth Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, November 23. The scholarship is in honor of Martin being named the 2011 A. Craig Phillips North Carolina Superintendent of the Year in Greensboro. The school system will decide how to select the student recipient.

At the meeting, Jim Brady praised the commitment and teamwork by Martin and the board in creating an excellent school system. He also thanked board members for their time and sacrifice, citing his father, Don Brady’s, experiences serving as a member the Greensboro City Board of Education. Don Brady, chairman and founder of Brady, has been a lifelong advocate for education in the Triad and statewide.

Also participating in the ceremony was Phil Kirk, director of Brady Energy Services and former chair for the State Board of Education. During the presentation, Kirk joked that Dr. Martin is often giving him advice and added “more often than not, I take his advice. Now, as an advisor to the State Board of Education, Dr. Martin can get more of his good ideas implemented.”

For the past two years, Brady has sponsored the Superintendent of the Year award by North Carolina Association of School Administrators and the North Carolina School Boards Association. On November 16, Jim Brady announced Martin as this year’s winner and presented him with a $5,000 check. He also honored the 10 regional finalists at the North Carolina School Boards Association annual convention.
