The Construction Centre

Having heard about the recent Christmas charity single released by The Strawheads in aid of PC David Rathband’s Blue Lamp Foundation, The Construction Centre has decided to lend its support by promoting the single through their website, Twitter page and blog.

PC David Rathband was shot by Raoul Moat in Cumbria this year leaving him permanently blind. However while recovering in hospital he realised that many service men and women have been injured doing their duty and alongside their physical suffering, may also experience financial hardship or unexpected additional costs.

In order to support these brave men and women across the UK, David Rathband set up the Blue Lamp Foundation and the charity has a £1million target to reach by 2013. Having heard about PC Rathband’s story and cause, musical duo The Strawheads decided to donate 100% of the proceeds from the sale of their Christmas song to David’s charity.

On hearing the song David Rathband said “The single is about the reality of life which continues during the festive season. I hope that people enjoy the song and that it provokes some thoughts about what is happening in the world, but not let this spoil their Christmas.”

The single has already been played on local radio stations and has been hailed a brilliant new Christmas song for a very worthy cause. All proceeds from ITunes and Amazon will go directly to the Blue Lamp Foundation.

About The Strawheads
The Strawheads are available for interview/live performance. They are a prolific singer song writing duo from Cambridge making melodic, guitar based pop rock with jangly chords, catchy hooks and thoughtful lyrics delivered by the unique blend of the gravel-voiced Graham Buxton and the smooth dulcet vocal of Stephen Bottomley. Their infectious brand of music has been described from ‘honey coated barbed wire’ to ‘refreshingly uplifting, more like Coke than regular pop’. The Strawheads believe in the power of music to inspire, excite, comfort and console.

2009 Economy and Budget: It's broken and it can't be fixed
Richard Simmons, Managing Director at The Construction Centre .co.uk suggests the UK economy may never recover... The great problem with democracy and a 5 year election cycle is that there is little incentive for the Government to speak the truth or candidly make honest forecasts. In October last year the Government and Bank of England were ‘pretending to be surprised’ that the forecast contraction in GDP for 2009 was at 0.5%

The Construction Centre reported earlier this year that migrant building workers were returning to their homelands which would exacerbate the UK skills shortage. Fresh reports released today by the Times indicate that the Olympic Delivery Authority and the London Development Agency will be investing up to £20 million on training people in order to meet the construction timescales for the 2012 Olympics.
