Cowles & Thompson Earns Four Big Courtroom Wins in 14 Days

DALLAS – Some law firms might need months to earn four successful jury verdicts, but the attorneys at Dallas’ Cowles & Thompson, P.C., recently accomplished the feat in a span of only two weeks with victories for clients in courtroom across the state.

The firm’s impressive streak started on Oct. 20 in Harris County District Court when shareholders John Pease and Byron Henry won a jury verdict in a complex indemnity case involving an oil well blowout. After three days of testimony in the hotly contested trial, jurors awarded the firm’s client 100 percent of all damages that were requested.

The following week, on Oct. 29, a State District Court jury in Dallas returned a finding of “no negligence” on the part of a concrete pipe manufacturer represented by Cowles & Thompson shareholder Chuck Green and senior attorney Hilaree Casada. The pipe manufacturer was sued by a truck driver who sought $25 million for extremely serious and debilitating injuries suffered while unloading the pipe. Jurors found the manufacturer not responsible after the weeklong trial.

Later that same day, firm shareholder David Metzler secured a favorable jury finding in an El Paso County Court-at-Law on behalf of a California real estate agency facing accusations of misconduct in connection with real estate investments. The plaintiff unsuccessfully sought damages in excess of $650,000.

Capping off the 14-day run, on Nov. 1 shareholders Jim Cowles and Auston Cherry secured a successful defense verdict in Dallas federal court on behalf of a Virginia law firm that faced allegations of negligent misrepresentation, fraud and legal malpractice related to its preparation of a tax opinion.
