Master Class in Functional Singing

Master Class in Functional Singing

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Princeton, NJ – January 23, 2019 Do you ever wonder why some days you can sing easily and other days you can’t? Or why you always seem to be stuck singing in a lower voice when you really want to hit those high notes? Whether you are someone who just loves singing in the shower, a voice student or professional vocalist, you can find out the answers to these questions by attending voice teacher Donna Reid’s “Master Class in Functional Singing” on February 2, 2019 at the American College of Orgonomy campus in Princeton, NJ from 4:00 PM to 6:00PM. $45 per person.

Ms. Reid will explain her approach in this master class about how the voice functions, with a focus on how emotional tension may affect it. The class will include live vocal demonstrations. Anyone interested in volunteering to work with Ms. Reid in front of the class as part of a demonstration should send an email to aco@orgonomy.org.

Ms. Reid maintains a private studio on the Upper West Side of Manhattan where she teaches musical theater performers and classical singers. She was on the faculty of The American Musical and Dramatic Academy for 19 years. She attended the School of Music at Northwestern University and sang professionally in Europe for nine years specializing in contemporary opera. She has performed in concerts and operas throughout Europe, appeared on Italian and German television, and has recorded various contemporary songs and operas. She was associate (and wife) to Cornelius L. Reid from 1994 until his death in 2008. Cornelius Reid was a noted singing teacher, author of five books on vocal pedagogy and the father of Functional Vocal Training. She assisted Mr. Reid in the numerous master classes he presented in the United States, Canada and Europe and acted as translator during those classes given in various cities in Germany and Austria. Ms. Reid teaches master classes in Germany in connection with MusikWerkstatt Darmstadt, a music school in Darmstadt (http://www.musik-unterricht.info) and she also teaches in Paris, France in association with Broadway in Paris (https://www.broadwayinparis.com).

The cost to attend the class is $45. Seating is limited, registration required. Call (732) 821-1144 or visit www.orgonomy.org.

The American College of Orgonomy (ACO) is a nonprofit educational and scientific organization located near Princeton, New Jersey, that is devoted to setting and maintaining standards for work in the field of orgonomy, the science developed by Dr. Wilhelm Reich.

The College conducts a postgraduate medical orgonomy training program for qualified physicians and psychiatrists. Medical orgonomists offer a unique form of treatment that is based on a scientific understanding of the connection between the mind and the body. This approach effectively treats a wide range of emotional illnesses, usually without medication.

Elsworth F. Baker, M.D., a psychiatrist who trained and worked with Dr. Reich, founded the ACO in 1968. Reich, a student and colleague of Sigmund Freud, discovered that all living things contain an energy that he called, “orgone energy.” He originated the science of orgonomy based on his scientific observations. Today, this science informs an energetic understanding and approach to psychiatry, medicine, biology, the physical and social sciences, and atmospheric environmental research.

The ACO also offers its Social Orgonomy Training Program which applies orgonomic principals to the social realm. In addition to its professional educational programs, the College sponsors conferences, a speakers’ bureau, lectures, and laboratory courses for professional and interested laymen. The ACO conducts and supports basic and applied research, publishes The Journal of Orgonomy, a newsletter, and is a source for books about orgonomy.
