Voice of Women for Peace celebrates 50th anniversary on the frontlines for peace
Inaugural celebratory conference at the University of Toronto November 12-14

NOVEMBER 4,2010,TORONTO,CANADIAN VOICE OF WOMEN FOR PEACE [VOW]-- The Canadian Voice of Women for Peace [VOW], a non-partisan NGO comprised of women from across Canada will mark its fifty year anniversary on the frontlines for peace with a 50th anniversary conference Building Peace: Resisting War, to be held November 12–14, in Toronto.


"They vowed that the 21st century would be one of building peace, and laid out an agenda of how this could be accomplished" said Lyn Adamson, National Co-Chair & a United Nations Representative for VOW. "It is now 2010 and though the world is gripped by militarism, our peace agenda has started to be taken up. We must build momentum and support for the positive changes we know are possible. With widespread citizen engagement and activism, we can build a peaceful future together".

VOW plans on showcasing much of the best thinking of lawyers and activists who will speak to delegitimizing war and building peace. VOW invites all who are peace minded to be at the conference through Sunday. Thwe VOW AGM, will focus on action strategy creation on the challenges to peace all people face moving forward.



The conference weekend opens with a reception and gala dinner on Friday night, November 12th at 7:00 p.m. This dinner will be held in the Great Hall of Hart House, University of Toronto. VOW is celebrating celebrating its long history of activism for peace and for women’s rights. Keynote speaker Cora Weiss, is a lifelong peace advocate and principal organizer of the 1999 Hague international peace conference, attended by more than 10,000 people. She will be be welcomed by UNESCO Ambassador Kim Phuc.



The conference weekend will also provide nurture through creative expression. Musical performances are planned at our gala dinner by the ECHO women’s choir and noted "artist for peace" pianist Pierre Jasmin. On Saturday conference attendees will gather for dinner at a nearby Friends House and enjoy the premiere of the play ‘The 1325 Key to Peace’ by Shirley Farlinger. The Raging Grannies will perform and Haligonian Sandy Greenberg will encourage us on the path to peace with her beautiful music.
