Mainline Menswear are proud to announce today that Gloverall coats are now live online and available ready in time for the cold winter and Christmas.

Gloverall jackets are now live online at top independent designer clothing retailer Mainline Menswear, just in time for the winter season. The iconic duffle coats are a timeless classic that dates back to their first arrival in 1890, when an outdoor clothing specialist brought back a tough, hardwearing material from the small Belgian town of Duffel. The duffle coat was soon adopted by North Sea fishermen as they kept them warm and dry at sea, but best of all were easy to remove while still wearing gloves. This was down to the toggle fastening, a first on clothing. The coat was then passed onto the military and the navy during the first and second world war, where Field Viscount Montgomery took great pride in wearing his duffle coat, a design would later be christened the 'Monty' in homage.
After the second world war a couple who sold cotton, leather, gloves and overalls were approached and given the task of selling the surplus MOD duffle coats. The stock soon diminished leaving Harold and Freda Morris, creators of Gloverall (taken from their stock of gloves and overalls), to begin producing their own coats. As they began to investigate the design and style further they made slight adjustments to the coats, creating a lighter, more fashionable and luxury coat that, unbeknown to them at the time, would still be popular sixty plus years later.
Every single Gloverall coat be it a duffle, reefer or pea coat is made in London, England. Something that the brand have no plans to change as it give their clothing character and allows them to be perceived by the public as icons of British excellence, something that we happily will tip our caps to and nod in agreement.
