Lightweight Summer Gloverall Duffle Coats at Mainline Menswear

This summer is all about the lightweight jacket for those particularly chilly days and occasional spring showers, and what better to combat these British seasonal conditions with than a Gloverall duffle coat. This summer has seen a change in design with canvas and nylon outers and mesh lining now used to keep the weight down and let the heat out.

Gloverall was first established in 1951 by Harold and Freda Morris when they began selling surplus MOD duffle coats left over from the Second World War, and such was the popularity they designed and sold their own once the stock had sold right down. This started the Gloverall brand that everyone knows and loves today. Still manufactured and distributed from the UK when buying a Gloverall coat you are buying a piece of British engineering and heritage.
The original duffle coat material was found in the small Belgian village of Duffel back in 1890 but nowadays even in the winter coats Gloverall use a much lighter material that is based on the original. Horn toggles have been replaced by plastic or wood and the rope to hold the toggle is now sometimes seen as leather on certain higher fashion pieces.
Gloverall always keep the original coats in mind when designing as these fantastic coats withstood two world wars and countless days at sea, keeping service men warm and safe throughout.
