Precision Laser Machining with Mitsui Seiki
Vertical 5-axis laser machining centre VLD-300
Complex and demanding manufacturing processes in Jet engine components that are built from Inconel, Waspalloy, Hastalloy or nickel based titanium alloys are calling for machining systems that are more precise and faster. Machining of typical engine parts with thousands of smallest cooling airflow holes at different angles can now be produced fast and contact-free.
The machine was developed in close corporation with aerospace companies and is something completely new: For the first time, customers get a laser machining centre instead of a laser with machining capabilities. Thanks to that approach, the machining centre incorporates Mitsui Seiki’s well-known high precision and performance: Repeatability of 0.001 mm on all drive ways, axis positioning accuracy of the tilt/turntable of ±6 arc seconds for A-axis, ±3 on B-axis and ±4 on C-axis. Cutting speed on all axes range from 0.1 ~ 20,000 mm/min. Maximum acceleration meets 1.5 g.
Optionally, the linear vertical centre can be customized with CO2, diode pump or fibre lasers for various aerospace and other industries’ tasks.
The machine itself is based on a massive cast iron bed. The work space was designed for optimal dust collection and transport. The Nd:YAG laser offers a focal length of 200 or 300 mm and a height sensor for work offset probing. The machine is ready for automisation, e.g. automatic pallet changing or robot loading/unloading. The Fanuc 310iM control handles machine, laser and equipment on a extensible Microsoft Windows platform.
