Penguin’s Spinebreakers.co.uk Launches Matilda, A Musical Song-Lyrics Competition In Association With The Royal Shakespeare Company.
Penguin’s online teen book community Spinebreakers has launched a Song-Lyrics Competition with the RSC themed around Roald Dahl’s novel Matilda. Australian comedian, musician and composer Tim Minchin, who has written the music and lyrics for the RSC’s new musical adaptation of Matilda, will be judging the entries and choosing a winner.Penguin’s online teen book community Spinebreakers has partnered with the Royal Shakespeare Company to launch a song-lyrics competition themed around Roald Dahl’s novel Matilda. The competition launched on the 6th of October 2010 and will be open for entries from UK residents aged 13-18 until the 18th of November 2010.
Entrants must write song lyrics for one of the characters featured in Roald Dahl’s Matilda. They can choose to write for Matilda, Miss Honey or Miss Trunchbull. The prize for the winner is a pair of tickets to see the RSC’s Matilda, A Musical at The Courtyard Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon. The tickets will be valid for the performance on Saturday 11th December at 2pm.
Entries will be shortlisted and then judged by comedian and composer Tim Minchin who has written the music and lyrics for the RSC’s new musical adaptation of Matilda There will be one winner who will be the entrant that, in Tim Minchin’s opinion, has submitted the best song lyrics most suited to the character they have chosen to write for.
The competition can be entered on Penguin’s teen website spinebreakers.co.uk and selected entries will be published on Spinebreakers.co.uk.
The Matilda, A Musical Song-Lyrics Competition will run from 6/10/2010 to 18/11/2010 and is open to UK residents aged 13-18. Entry is on Spinebreakers.co.uk.
Matilda, A Musical previews in the RSC’s Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon from 9 November 2010 and plays for a straight 12 week run until 30 January 2011. It will be directed by the Tony Award-winning Matthew Warchus, the book is by playwright and screen-writer Dennis Kelly, and the music and lyrics are by the anarchic Australian comedian, musician and composer Tim Minchin.
