Europa-Sportregion extends its pistes as far as Germany

The 'Europa-Sportregion' can offer its guests 132 kilometres of pistes on Kitzsteinhorn and Schmittenhöhe. And since the beginning of this year there has even been a further addition: Zell am See and Kaprun have extended their network of pistes by another 300 metres - although the piste in question is not to be found locally.

The scene of this latest expansion is Wittenburg, a little town of about 5,000 inhabitants in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in Northern Germany. From now on, a trace of the typical Austrian charm will be felt here, too. How come? It is thanks to the cooperation between Europe's largest indoor snow park, Snow Funpark Wittenburg, and the popular holiday region in the heart of Pinzgau.

Since the Snow Funpark was opened about a month ago, it has already seen 100,000 visitors pouring into the brand-new hall in 'Winterwelt 1', which quite fittingly is the address of the park. Visitors can experience all the many facets of a winter holiday here on 365 days a year. A lift, a half-pipe and pistes with a gradient of up to 3 in 10 satisfy any kind of spontaneous hunger for snow. And the Snow Funpark even comes up with a glacier - although it may not be quite as impressive as the one on Kitzsteinhorn at an altitude of 2,900 metres.

A 'Show on Snow' is being organized as a ceremonial opening to the future cooperation of the two winter sports destinations. From 23rd to 25th February this team of snowboarders and skiers is showing some acrobatic action. Other events which are designed help Wittenburg and Zell am See-Kaprun become a unified whole are to follow soon. Hans Wallner, Managing Director of Europa-Sportregion Marketing GmbH, is very pleased with this joint venture: 'We would like to present our region in all its details to the people who come to the Snow Funpark. Maybe some of them will feel like spending their holiday in Pinzgau afterwards.'

The connections between Wittenburg and the 'Europa-Sportregion' could hardly be any better: there are several scheduled flights from Hamburg Fuhlsbüttel to Salzburg's Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Airport every day. Holidaymakers can thus travel comfortably between these two metropolis in less than an hour and a half and get to their holiday and relaxation without any detour.
