Wharton School Adopts Two Common Knowledge Scholarship

Ft. Lauderdale/Davie, FL – The Common Knowledge Scholarship Foundation (CKSF), which is based at Nova Southeastern University, is proud to announce that two of its scholarship initiatives have been selected to be projects for the highly esteemed Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Students in the Wharton School's Management 100 for the Fall Semester of 2010 will work with CKSF on its Department of Homeland Security Common Knowledge Scholarship and US Cyber Challenge Common Knowledge Scholarship.

Dr. Anne Greenhalgh, the Director of Wharton's Undergraduate Leadership Program, accepted only 74 projects to be presented to the 54 project teams in the Management 100 program. Following the presentations, each of the 54 teams selected a project to take on for the semester. CKSF was fortunate to have two of its initiatives selected. This marked the sixth consecutive year that a CKSF program has been chosen as a client for the Wharton program.

“It is an honor to be a Management 100 client, not just because of Wharton’s status, but because the students are passionate and ambitious and absolutely believe they can make a difference,” said Daryl Hulce, President of the Common Knowledge Scholarship Foundation. “In our six years with Wharton, I have yet to hear of one Management 100 client that was not amazed at the results provided by the Wharton students.”

During the fall semester two teams of ten students will work with the CKSF office to develop, implement, promote and award the following scholarships:

1) Homeland Security Common Knowledge Scholarship - to help educate high school and college students about Homeland Security, who they are, what they do and how they impact us.

2) US Cyber Challenge Common Knowledge scholarship - this is an outreach scholarship to help raise awareness of the US Cyber Challenge developed and administered by The Center for Internet Security.

Dr. Greenhalgh describes her Management 100 program as upside down, backwards and high touch. She makes it clear that top performing teams deliver a high quality service and work well with each other and their clients. She added that much of the credit for the long-standing relationship with CKSF is due to Hulce.

“I screen for clients who 'get' the course and Daryl (Hulce) is one of those clients,” said Greenhalgh. “He understands the highly experiential nature of the class and his critical role in mentoring the students. The success of the class depends on clients like Daryl.”

What makes the relationship with CKSF particularly unique and interesting is that CKSF is the only remote not-for-profit client working with Management 100, so the teams will have to use means other than regular face-to-face meetings.

“Learning how to manage client relationships is one of the takeaways, learning points, of the course,” added Greenhalgh. “The main point is for teams and clients to stay in touch and Daryl is exemplary in making a point of meeting and communicating with the students, despite the distance.”

Past CKSF projects adopted by Wharton's Management 100 students include The FBI-SOS Internet Challenge, Financial Literacy, The Kraft Basket Math Challenge and the Philadelphia Eagles Common Knowledge Scholarship.

The Common Knowledge Scholarship Foundation (CKSF) was established in 2000 and is administered through the Nova Southeastern University's Fischler School of Education and Human Services. CKSF awards scholarships through the use of internet-based quiz competitions. Each scholarship consists of one or more quizzes with topics that range from common knowledge to specific academic subjects. The primary focus is to have an objective competition that rewards students who have well-rounded, practical knowledge, and not necessarily those with the highest academic standing. WWW.CKSF.ORG
