Miami Area Middle School Wins National FBI-SOS Internet Challenge
Ft. Lauderdale-Davie, Fla. – A group of 716 students from G.W. Carver Middle School in Miami, Florida scored the highest in the nation on the September edition of the FBI-SOS (Safe Online Surfing) Internet Challenge, an internet safety program backed by Nova Southeastern University (NSU) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).These students clicked their way to first place by studying internet safety information on pre-screened websites and performing the best on the FBI-SOS post-quiz. As FBI-SOS Internet Challenge champions, students receive the FBI-SOS National Trophy and a visit from the FBI. The official award ceremony will take place at 9:45am on October 15th at G.W. Carver Middle School, located at 4901 Lincoln Drive, Miami, Florida 33133.
The FBI-SOS Internet Challenge is administered at NSU's Fischler School of Education and Human Services and is designed to provide middle school students with knowledge about how to avoid dangerous situations on the internet, specifically internet predators. The monthly program is free and available to middle schools nationwide.
To date, approximately 46,000 middle school students in 35 states have participated in the FBI-SOS Internet Challenge.
