Market Overview

Larvicides are insecticides used for killing mosquito larvae and pupae. The killing of mosquito larvae before they emerge as adults can reduce or eliminate the need for ground or aerial application of pesticides to kill adult mosquitoes. Moreover, larviciding can reduce the overall pesticide use in a control program.  

The growth of the global larvicides market is primarily driven by the increasing prevalence of vector-borne diseases such as dengue, malaria, chikungunya, Zika, West Nile, and Lyme disease. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), vector-borne diseases account for more than 17% of all infectious diseases, causing over 700,000 deaths per year. An estimated 216 million cases of malaria were reported in 91 countries and the deaths caused by malaria reached 445,000 in 2016.
