The Big Brother of dispatch
Bizerba/Pesa present PC-supported dispatch solutions at Post Expo 2010Balingen/Copenhagen, 20th September 2010 - The world of communication is currently in a state of upheaval. The majority of communication activities have shifted into the virtual world - from emails over texts messages to online banking. This also has consequences for the post, express and dispatch sector. The form these consequences will be discussed by around 200 international exhibitors at the Post Expo 2010 in Copenhagen. New system solutions will be presented here - solutions which actively help to shape the structural change with hardware and software components. Bizerba, the Balingen-based solutions provider, and Pesa, its Swiss subsidiary, will exhibit fully-automatic and manual PC-supported dispatch solutions (hall C1, stand 1140).
Big Brother: Fully automatic weighing, scanning, dimensioning and choice of the best dispatch options
"In order to optimize costs in 'classic' forms of dispatch, a business must choose the most beneficial type of dispatch for every product. Its a matter of deciding to calculate the postage cost of the product according to its weight or its volume. The system solution from Bizerba/Pesa consists of a hardware system for the dimensioning, weighing and scanning of products (DWS) and the Parcel Shipping System (PSS) software", says Dieter Conzelmann, Bizerba's Director of Industry Solutions Market.
A scanner identifies the product on the conveyor belt by referring to its barcode. Scales then weigh the product in a dynamic operation, the volume measurement system (VMS) determines the width, height and length of the package. The system can determine the corresponding volumes thanks to these calculations and transfers all of the data to the superior host system.
With the help of stored tariff charts, the PSS software automatically decides whether the product should be billed according to its weight or volume; it then indicates the most suitable carrier and compiles all of the necessary dispatch papers. The GLM-L labeling system then attaches a label with all of the dispatch data onto the package. There is also the option of using an RFID application here.
Little Brother: The manual commissioning, packing and dispatch station
The manual commissioning and dispatch station consists of the ST operating terminal, the LA 150 load receiver, the GLP printer, a scanner as well as a PC with a touch-screen monitor. WinCIS Counting software helps in the commissioning of small items. Thanks to the stored reference weigh, the software automatically recognizes when the desired number of items has been placed on the scales. Small items in particular can be commissioned in a time-saving manner; there is also a guarantee of a constantly up-to-date summary of the material inventory.
The items to be posted will be manually scanned and weighed. Here, too, the software determines the most beneficial form of dispatch and the appropriate carrier, transmits the data to the superior host system and compiles the necessary dispatch documents thanks to the integrated tariffs. The labels are created by the GLP labeler, an RFID unit is also optionally available.
About PESA
PESA is a internationally successful manufacturer of weighing technologies. Along with dynamic and static weighing technologies, the company also specializes in the production of mass encoders. Above all, PESA provides OEM partners and key accounts with hybrid load receivers, static platform scales, dynamic in-motion scales and systems. The PESA 2 string mass encoder is based on a few, high-quality individual parts which function precisely and will not need any further service coverage for years after they have been built. PESA's five point service promise consists of customer-orientated service, on site advice, project planning, installation and service.
Pfäffikon/Zurich is the headquarters of this business, which was founded in 1972 and has around 24 employees. In 2007 PESA was incorporated into the Bizerba Group and was finally made a 100% subsidiary in 2009.
