Press release from: Articulon

RALEIGH, N.C. (August 26, 2010)—Precision Race (precisionrace.com), a Raleigh-based race management and timing company, announces today it has been awarded timing contracts for the Myrtle Beach Marathon and Krispy Kreme Challenge. Both February 2011 races expect to have participation exceed 7,500. The company is integrating the latest technology to improve the experiences for race participants and organizers.

Using SMS text messaging and emails for runners’ split times are just two of many features available from Precision Race. Technology expertise to communicate with runners was a driving decision for the Myrtle Beach Marathon Committee in choosing Precision Race as it looks to build its event into one of the top mid-size marathons in the country.

“Race organizers are continually looking to improve the experience for participants,” says Bruce Bokish, Precision Race co-owner. “We are excited to work on these two fantastic events and look forward to using our services to provide a boost to participants and organizers.”

The package of real-time technologies Precision Race offers includes:

Disposable bib-chip timing – eliminates the need to put chips on shoes or to collect them at the end of a race. No chip lines or finish line congestion.

Chip-check system – at packet pickup, runners can test their bib-chip and verify that their personal data is entered correctly.

SMS/e-mail messaging of split point times and finish times – as runners pass the 6.5-mile point of a half-marathon, the 6.5, 13.1 and 19-mile points of marathons and at the finish line, they can receive a text message or e-mail in real time with their race times.

“Your Name in Lights” display – above the finish line, there will be large-screen displays that show runners’ names, bib numbers and time as they cross the finish line.

Real-time results kiosks – after finishing the race, runners can head to the touch-screen results kiosks, type in their bib number and see their finish time, overall finish place and age-group place, then print out the results. All runners' times are displayed on a continuously scrolling display. This eliminates the wait for results to be printed and posted.

In addition to the MB Marathon and Krispy Kreme Challenge, Precion Race provides timing and management for numerous races spanning the Eastern United States. Events include the Georgia Golden Olympics in Warner Robbins, Ga.; the Cooper Young Festival Friday 4-Miler in Memphis, Tenn.; Freedom’s Run state marathon Championship in Shephardstown, W. Va.; the Great Human Race in Durham, N.C., as well as the Ridgewood Turkey Trot in Raleigh and St. Patty’s Run Green in Raleigh, N.C. and the Cup ‘n Cone Tour in Cary, N.C.
