Marginal Difference Estimated between Revenues of Natural and Chemical-based Hair Color

Natural hair colors have gained prominent palpability in Europe over the past couple of years, with concerns regarding chemical additives in hair care products and their impacts on health increasing among consumers. Natural hair color account for over half over the entire hair color sales in Europe, with revenues expected to exceed US$ 260 Mn in 2018. Gains from chemical-based hair colors in Europe will also be significant, with sales estimated to hold

Growing demand for natural hair colors among European consumers can be attributed to the fact that these products are devoid of ammonia content, which has been associated with significant hair thinning and damage. In addition, occupancy of leading cosmetic manufacturers in Europe has further been favoring development and sales of natural cosmetic products in the region, and hair colors are no exception.

The European Union has banned over 1300 chemicals from being used in cosmetics, which include quaternium-15 and propylparaben, primarily used in various lotions and hair care products. This has further required manufacturers to premarket safety assessments, go through government authorization, and mandatory registration. Such intensive procedures associated with use of chemicals has further shifted focus of manufacturers toward natural cosmetic product development.

Specialty Stores to Hold Significant Share of Europe Hair Color Market

Majority of the revenues in the Europe hair color market are estimated to be accounted by sales in specialty stores. Hair color sales in specialty stores will bring in over US$ 150 Mn in 2018, accounting for over one-third share of the Europe hair color market. Currently every European consumer opts for both offline and online purchases, and these two channels, specialty stores and online channels, continue to complement each other.

Online sales of hair color are expected to hold over two-fifth share of the Europe hair color market, with sales estimated to exceed US$ 100 Mn in 2018. Growth in online sales continue to increase competitive pressures, accentuated by increasing significance of the off-price concepts.
