Christie announced that Hoyts Cinemas has signed an exclusive deal to convert its entire cinema circuit of over 400 screens across 49 locations to 2K and 4K-ready Series 2 Christie Solaria™ projectors over the next three years. As a part of the Digital Cinema Implementation Partners - Australia program (DCIP-A), the agreement is a testament to the 25-year relationship between Christie and Hoyts, and makes the deal the largest of its kind in Australia and New Zealand. The deal was made official at the Australian International Movie Convention held August 15-19, 2010.

Hoyts’ comprehensive rollout capitalizes on the superior technologies of the Christie Solaria Series 2 digital cinema projectors, Christie Xenon lamps and other state of the art support equipment such as the Gefen A/V Cinema Scaler.

Furthermore, this supply agreement also assures that Hoyts will be one of the first exhibitors worldwide to install Christie 4K DLP Cinema projection technology. Adam Wrightson, Hoyts Group Technology Director, notes, “We’ve been installing digital systems throughout our circuit since 2003 and have kept pace with the demand for 3D. Now we are taking the final steps toward offering excellent digital presentations to all our patrons. We are in the midst of creating a whole new cinematic experience in our entertainment complexes which, when completed, will include 3D movies as well as alternative content such as live 3D events, premieres and sports broadcasts.”

The immense possibilities and benefits of digital cinema and 3D digital cinema, in particular, have changed the landscape of the cinema industry. Christie is at the forefront of this pivotal change, recently announcing over 12,000 digital cinema installations worldwide and the first digital cinema licensee to meet all DCI-compliance testing.

“The Christie Solaria Series offers a significant advantage in image clarity, brightness and ease of operational adaptability. With the rising popularity of 3D movies and increased flexibility in content and screen management, exhibitors need projectors that show every available content in the best possible light and with the lowest cost of operation,” remarks George Scheckel, Director of International Business Development for Christie Digital Systems USA, Inc.

With digital cinema, the viewing experience is significantly enhanced with pristine, razor-sharp images at each and every screening. With digital content, the risk of film scratches, hot spots and image distortion is a thing of the past. In addition, with DLP Cinema projection and distribution, movies can be shown on more screens and at higher frequency providing movie-goers ample opportunity to watch movies and alternative content of their choice.

“We are delighted to support Hoyts as they continue converting their entire circuit to digital,” says Lin Yu, Vice-President of Christie Asia Pacific. “It is our goal to deliver on the unique entertainment experience for every movie goer. This exclusive partnership with Hoyts will provide a great benefit to their patrons.”
