Insurance Navy Brokers Shares Traveling Advice For The Holiday

Palos Hills, Illinois- November 16, 2018- Insurance Navy shares traveling tips to keep drivers safe and stress-free this holiday weekend. The following tips are for the Thanksgiving holiday period that begins on Wednesday, November 21 and ends on Sunday, November 25.

This Thanksgiving weekend, an estimated 89 percent of travelers will drive to their destinations, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Insurance Navy has compiled the following tips to help keep your trip as enjoyable as possible as millions of Americans hit the road to celebrate with family and friends.

Drivers can take the following steps to avoid interruptions and mishaps on their road trips:

Plan ahead: Using traffic reports from previous years, Google determined the best time to travel is as early as possible on Thanksgiving Day. Nationwide, Tuesday and Wednesday are the most popular days of the week to start traveling and therefore also the busiest and more congested days on the road.

Allow extra travel time: With more people on the road, the chances of congested roads and accidents increase. To avoid being pressured for time, leave earlier than usual. For Americans going on a Thanksgiving road trip, INRIX, forecasts travel times in the busiest cities to be up to four times longer than usual.

Update proof of insurance: Before taking off, make sure to update any expired insurance identification cards. If drivers are pulled over or involved in an accident and their insurance cards are not up to date, they may receive a ticket, even if they have a current car insurance policy.

Plan for roadside assistance: Drivers can conduct a checkup before leaving, but that does not mean their car will not break down. Insurance Navy offers roadside assistance for only $50 for six months to help when the unexpected happens.

Observe speed limits: Drivers should always remain focused and be aware of all traffic patterns, specifically speed limits. Speeding reduces the driver’s control of their vehicle and also increases the severity of car crashes and injuries, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Avoid distracted driving: Drivers should never use their phone or any other distractions while driving. Social media posts, phone calls and the like can wait until drivers reach their destinations.
