Press release from: Bizerba GmbH & Co. KG

Bremen fish specialist retailer F.L. Bodes is relying on the use of IT to support sales - technology manufacturer Bizerba has installed modern PC retail scales

Bremen/Balingen, 6th July 2010- “Constantly fresh seafood delicacies from all over the world”. This is the promise of Bremen fish specialist F. L. Bodes Nachfolger GmbH & Co. KG. The company looks back on over 140 years and five generations of experience in fish retail, wholesale and in the meantime also catering. Quality, service and advice are top of the agenda, as well as the use of contemporary technology. Recently the company has therefore been relying on the modern K class retail scales from the Balingen technology manufacturer Bizerba. The PC scales integrate all important retail tasks - weighing, taking money, advertising, printing, advising, into one solution.

The K class meets a whole variety of requirements thanks to a sophisticated modular design principle. Individual hardware modules can be adapted, combined or extended according to customer requirements, so that different types of scales can be configured: from desk scales through to standing scales to suspension scales. Bodes has started using four Bizerba standing scales version KH 800 S2Tw. An up to 12.1 inch screen set up facing the customer guarantees a brilliant display of consumer information, sales promotion campaigns and additional purchase recommendations. “This means that customers are targeted with offers and food preparation suggestions whilst they are being served. At the same time as customers are looking at the scales display to follow the weight and price of their purchase they for example see an advert for a suitable spice mixture.” Claudia Gross, Director Marketing & Communication at Bizerba explains the cross selling philosophy. Sales assistants are also able to offer better advice with the help of the K class. “If a customer asks for monkfish, the sales assistants only need to touch the “monkfish” button on the scales touchscreen and background information, preparation advice or recipes appear. Meaning for example that the sales assistants can immediately recommend a recipe for Asturias monkfish in Cider sauce with Venus mussels to the customers and print the recipe off from the scales”, says Gross. The customer therefore does not only receive advice but also a complete shopping list and cooking instructions.

Depending on the required scope Bizerba offers the weighing systems with Bizerba RetailFramework tools. “The scales are therefore expandable so that they can grow with customer demands, as the K class can do much more than just weigh. It is an expert system, which helps every sales assistant to demonstrate competency and reliance”, says Gross. At the end of the day better advisory skills also impact on customer loyalty, customer satisfaction and higher sales.

Managing Director Peter Koch-Bodes has also introduced the Bizerba WinCWS inventory management system with the new scales. This software takes over communication between the POS and head offices, manages all information on product groups and can centrally carry out the control of retail scales, cash registers and price labelling systems. It is also possible for branches to supply head offices with daily sales figures. “As a traditional company we can only exist if we deliver innovative technology as well as quality”, says Koch-Bodes, who is active at association level in the industry. Like many experts he also sees the future in the professional use of IT and multimedia to support sales at the point of sale.

Koch-Bodes and Bizerba experts are thinking of intensifying their collaboration in future, for example in the form of a direct internet link for the scales with access to the Fish Information Centre’s fishing map. “The origin of the fish on offer could also be shown on the scales display facing the customers”, explains Fritz Kiepert, Bizerba system advisor for retail systems.
