Press release from: Psychiatric Solutions, Inc.

/ PR Agency: dvl
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – (May 25, 2010) – Meadows Hospital, a Psychiatric Solutions, Inc. (PSI) facility, is teaching patients that gardening has more to offer than just fruits and vegetables. As part of its second annual spring/summer gardening project, patients at Meadows Hospital are learning the therapeutic nature of gardening, as well as the importance of eating healthy.

“Gardening has so much to offer and it is only natural to incorporate the project into the patient’s therapy,” said Jean Scallon, Chief Executive Officer of Meadows Hospital. “It teaches valuable skills such as patience, nurturing and responsibility. It also gives patients an opportunity to give back to the local community.”

As part of the gardening project, extra items grown will be donated to Hoosier Hills Food Bank. The Hoosier Hills Food Bank serves local hunger agencies in, Brown, Lawrence, Martin, Monroe, Orange and Owen counties. The food bank provides food to approximately 20,000 individuals each month.

“This project is a great way for us to help our patients, as well as help the local community,” said Scallon. “It’s a win-win for everyone.”
