Boston Health Sciences Graduate School Faculty Export Their Expertise

MGH Institute of Health Professions, Boston's Health Sciences Graduate School, has more than 940 students in nursing, physical therapy, communication sciences and disorders, and medical imaging.
Below is just a sampling of what some of the Boston health sciences graduate school's faculty are doing this month before they return to campus and use their knowledge to provide the highest level of education to the more than 940 students enrolled in nursing, physical therapy, speech-language pathology, and medical imaging.
* Gregory Lof, PhD, CCC-SLP, Chair of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, is in the land of Down Under to give two presentations on May 19 at the Speech Pathology Australia: 2010 National Conference in Melbourne, Australia.
The first is a keynote speech entitled “Should we get clinicians to be more like scientists (and scientists more like clinicians)?” Later that day, Dr. Lof will lead that day’s Keynote Workshop: “Two hot topics: Non-Speech Oral Motor Exercises (NSOME) and Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS)”
* Alex Johnson, PhD, CCC-SLP, Provost and Academic Vice President, will remain in the States on May 20 to present “Solving the Evidence Puzzle: A Critical Look at Evidence Based Clinical Care” in a special event lecture to the Psychology Department at the University of Michigan.
* Closer to home, Anne McCarthy-Jacobson, DPT, MS, NCS, Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy, is one of the presenters for the Ralph and Irene Epstein Rosenthal Memorial Lecture on May 20 at the Joseph B. Martin Harvard Conference Center in Boston.
Dr. McCarthy-Jacobson, along with former New England Patriot great Tedy Bruschi and his wife Heidi, and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital Chief Medical Officer Dr. Randie Black-Schaffer, will present “Tackling Perceptions: Stroke and Young Adults.”
* It’s always a big honor to return to one’s alma mater to address new graduates, and that’s what Professor Patrice Nicholas, DNSc, MPH, RN, ANP, FAAN, will be doing on May 22 when she gives the keynote Commencement address at Fitchburg State College.
Dr. Nicholas will receive an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree Honoris Causa.
