New Research Reveals the Top Business Start-up Professions for 2010
NEWS RELEASEAnalysis of exclusive UK start ups data released by Selectabase has revealed the top trades and professions chosen when starting a new business in 2010.
The most popular types of new business to be started in 2010 were from the computing, hair and beauty or home improvement sectors, new research has revealed.
For example the most popular start up profession in 2010 was as an electrician, followed by other consistently popular businesses like plumbers, hairdressers and computer services. These trades and professions were also amongst the top start ups in 2009.
However domestic cleaning, photographers and garden services all increased in popularity as start up choices, with all three jumping several positions into the top 10 start up industries for last year compared to 2009.
The research was carried out on data collected for the Startupsplus small business marketing service from Selectabase, which tracks new and changing businesses throughout the year and alerts potential local suppliers of these potential sales opportunities.
Out of the 1350 different industries represented amongst UK start ups last year, the top 10 sectors accounted for over 14% of all start up activity.
Whilst the overall number of new business start ups fell slightly from 2009 to 2010 by just over 6%, the top 10 start up professions held their own with very little difference in volume compared to last year.
