IMD hosts MBA Career Services Counsel European Conference

This week, IMD hosted the MBA Career Services Counsel European Conference – a three-day workshop on best career development and recruiting practices. Some 90 career services professionals from 43 MBA programs (34 European and 9 North American schools) participated, joined by MBA recruiting companies and sponsors.

The objectives of the conference were to share best practices in MBA recruiting, promote collaboration among member organizations and develop standard and ethical operating procedures, including the common reporting of salary and employment data (a way to ensure the rankings are really comparable). This high profile event among the MBA professional community was led by Katty Ooms Suter, Director of IMD MBA Admissions and Career Services.

Some of the highlights of the event were the following sessions:

· Reflections on Brands, Talent and MBAs by Mary Jo Jacobi, former Assistant Secretary of Commerce appointed by United States President George H.W. Bush. She was also a former Special Assistant on President Ronald Reagan’s Advisory Committee on Trade Negotiations.

· Future of Talent and Business Schools by Ed Marsh, Head of Talent and Organisation Development at Nestlé.

· Entrepreneurs, Complexity and Careers by IMD Professors Martha Maznevski and Stuart Read.

· Social Networks and Recruitment: Trends and the Vision of LinkedIn by Ariel Eckstein, Managing Director for European Hiring Solutions at LinkedIn.

“The conference was a unique opportunity to learn from each others’ challenges and discover new ways of helping our MBAs face an uncertain career landscape,” stated Ooms Suter.

IMD’s MBA Career Services group is considered among the best in the world. Last year, The Economist ranked IMD’s career services number one overall in its 2009 MBA rankings

Based in Switzerland, IMD is consistently top-ranked among business schools worldwide. With more than 60 years’ experience, IMD takes a real world, real learning approach to executive education. IMD offers pioneering and collaborative solutions to address clients’ challenges. Our perspective is international – we understand the complexity of the global environment. Real-impact executive learning and leadership development at IMD enables participants to learn more, deliver more and be more.
