Intelligent weighing, data and communications technology integrates all operational functions into one network
Bizerba presents the _statistics.BRAIN software at the IFFA 2010 (International Trade Fair for Processing, Packaging and Sales in the Meat Industry) in FrankfurtBalingen, 6th of April 2010 – From incoming goods to processing to the labelling of packaging units: In meat-processing companies weight is a central, operative factor and an integral part of processing and production technology. Weight determines the supply of material, influences process and production cycles and serves as the foundation for controlling and checking mechanisms. But for the weight to be used as a factor for calculation and control as well as for the optimisation of processes, an intelligent weighing, data and communications technology is required, which interconnects all operational functions and even individual technical equipment.
At the IFFA 2010 in Frankfurt, the leading international trade fair of the meat industry, technology provider Bizerba (www.bizerba.com), based in Baden-Wurttemberg, will present the inventory management software _statistics.BRAIN (hall 6.0, stand C60) from the 8th to the 13th of May. This software is not only able to perform perfect weight and quality checks, but also provides insights into the production process through detailed logging. The software includes a number of modules: “Automated Reporting”, “Monitoring”, “Interface Dynamic Weighing”, “Import and Export of Data” as well as quality checks.
_statistics.BRAIN in the incoming goods department
In the incoming goods department the operator can already perform AQL sampling according to ISO 2859 by using the Bizerba Load Receptor 750 VE-ED and the Weighing Terminal ST. The load receptor is either deployed on the floor with an access ramp or integrated into the pit floor with four weighing cells using wire strain gauges. “The Terminal ST is the interface between load bearer, PC as well as peripherals and is designed with connections for up to three load bearers. The terminal ST is connected to the PC in the production management department via a switch module,” says Dieter Conzelmann, the Director of Industry Solutions at Bizerba. There deliveries are checked against order data so that deliveries having the incorrect weight or incomplete deliveries can be refused directly in the incoming goods department.
_statistics.BRAIN in the production department
In the production stage products and finished packaging are checked – depending on the customer’s demands either by sampling or to 100 percent. During the entire process the production personnel executes the computerised quality checks themselves. The scales operator receives a direct alarm signal in the case of possible flaws and can immediately intervene in the production process. Online Monitoring permits the person working in front of the PC in the control centre to visualise the process online. In the case of large amounts of data, a histogram provides an immediate overview of distribution and outliers without having to analyse long sequences of numbers.
statistics.BRAIN in the goods issuing department
Underfilling is illegal and damaging to the company’s image, even slight overfilling adds up to substantial costs during the course of a year. With statistics.BRAIN a company can make sure that no packaging leaves the factory that does not have the correct weight. “At 15,000 finished packs per day and 200 production days per year, overfilling of only seven grams adds up to 21 tons per year. At a cost price of one Euro per kilo the give-away adds up to 21,000 Euros per year,” Conzelmann adds. Thus the purchase of _statistics.BRAIN will pay for itself very quickly. The combination with Bizerba CWE Control Scales will result in an effective instrument for process optimisation.
With the „Automated Reporting“ module all examination reports can be sent to defined recipients per email, be printed or stored in an electronic archive. The data is analysed with regard to target groups. “This has the advantage that meaningful reports are created, which can serve as the basis for decisions concerning future process design,” Conzelmann explains.
High-level Quality management of the products can be guaranteed in this way. This will be beneficial to the company’s image and will increase customer satisfaction as well as customer loyalty.
