DocFinity - by Optical Image Technology

Fairchild Controls, an aerospace and defense manufacturer of environmental, electronic, and pneumatic control systems, has deployed Optical Image Technology’s (OIT) DocFinity document imaging and workflow software to manage document-intensive processes in the integrated supply chain more efficiently and cost effectively. A wholly-owned business subsidiary of EADS, the company, located in Frederick, MD, provides commercial aircraft and military platforms around the world. It designs and manufactures custom environmental, electronic, and pneumatic control systems for the Department of Defense, leading military prime contractors, commercial air transport manufacturers, and major airlines.

Keeping abreast of regulatory changes and compliance with industry standards such as AS9100 and ISO 14001, Fairchild Controls deploys OIT document imaging to retain configuration control for Engineering documentation, industrial specifications and internal company polices and procedures. In addition, the company incorporated the OIT system with Fairchild’s existing enterprise resource planning system to attach supporting documents to the purchase order control system. OIT’s browser-based DocFinity document imaging and workflow software was implemented with three primary goals: to thoroughly index part lists, drawings, and related documentation for instant and secure retrieval; to electronically package drawings with associated files and match them with accounting documentation for quicker processing and verification by accounting staff; and to simplify audits.

DocFinity is helping Fairchild Controls to be AS9100 and ISO 14001 compliant by providing an electronic vault for mechanical drawings. The system controls access to files and ensures documentation can not be altered. DocFinity also provides detailed digital trails of all file access and transactional activity, making it quicker and easier to demonstrate compliance with multiple auditing entities. The software has also been implemented in human resources to securely store company policy files and other documentation.
