HP PRINTER Common Problem Issue Solution 1855-686-6166
Common HP Printer Issues:o Printer is offline
o Printer will not print
o Paper jams
o Missing/corrupted drivers
o Faded printing text
o Error 79 or 50.4
Fix It Procedure:
Offline Printer - Power off the computer and printer and disconnect their power cords from the power outlet. Also unplug the printer from the computer. Now, plug back the power cable back into the computer and power it on. Also connect the printer back to the power cable but don't turn it on. Connect the printer back to the computer and then power it on. The computer will detect the printer and it will be ready to use.
If this doesn't work, go to the 'Start' menu> go to 'Control Panel'> select 'Printer & faxes'. From the list, right click on whichever printer you have and then click on 'Use Printer Online'. This will resolve the problem.
If this fails too, then unplug the USB that connects printer to the computer, go to the 'Start' menu> and go to 'Run'. When the window comes up, type 'services.msc' (without quotes) in the box and click on 'OK'. It will bring up the list of different programs, scroll down to find 'Print Spooler', right click on it from the drop-down list and click on 'Restart'. This will certainly resolve the problem.
Printer doesn't print- Check the paper tray that it is not out of paper. Check if you recently made changes to your printer settings. If you did, then restore the settings to resolve the problem. Ensure that your recently installed firewall or anti-virus program not interfering with the printer.
If it is wireless printer, check your connection settings. If these are ok, then check that you have assigned a static IP address to your printer. If there is no static IP address, then assign one as your printer might look for new IP address every time you turn it on.
Missing/corrupted drivers- If you recently upgraded to newer Windows versions such as XP/Vista/7, you certainly need new printer driver for your printer to work. Drivers are applications that establish communication between Windows and the hardware (any hardware viz. printer, modem, router etc.).
If the driver is faulty or corrupted then replace it by downloading and installing a new, compatible one. Also, regularly update drivers for smooth functioning of printers. You can download and update drivers from your manufacturer's website or simply run Windows Update to check if new updates are available to download.
Paper jams- A very common issue with all the printers, paper jams occur frequently due to several reasons such as dirt inside the printer, damaged paper roller, or wrong type of paper is used etc. Clean the printer with a soft, dry cloth and if possible keep it in a dirt-free or clean area. Always use the right type of paper and any problem occurring because of this reason would be resolved.
Replacing the damaged roller can be a cumbersome task, varies as per the HP printer model. If you think you can't do it by yourself, take help of a technician. Also, pull out the paper in whichever direction the paper path is. Never pull the paper in the opposite direction as it may damage your HP printer.
Faded printing text- The printing text can appear too faded if the toner cartridge is nearing to finish, the EconoMode feature is on, or the print density is set on low mode. If first is the case, remove the toner cartridge and shake it well so that the toner is evenly redistributed. This will restore the proper printing temporarily until the cartridge is replaced.
To disable EconoMode, go to 'Control Panel'> select 'Printer & faxes'> right click on the HP printer icon and click on 'Properties' from the list. Click on the 'Printing Preferences' button and then click on the 'Finishing' button. Search through the window for print quality settings, and remove the checkmark from the 'EconoMode' box to deactivate the feature. Click on 'Apply' and then click on 'OK' to close the window.
To change print density settings, go to the same tab 'Printing Preferences' under 'Properties' in the 'Printer & faxes'. Click on the 'DETAILS' button on the bottom right hand side and select from the density settings from 1-5.
Error 79/50.4- The error 79 can occur when the network print server has a problem or an add-on part such as a RAM module or MIO card has failed. To overcome the issue, go to the 'Start' menu> open the 'Printer', and clear out the pending printing jobs. This should resolve the problem. If this fails, then uninstall the add-on printer part and install it again one after another to check which part caused the issue.
The error 50.4 indicates towards a power supply problem. If the printer is plugged to a UPS, then unplug it and plug it back directly into the wall jack. This should resolve the problem. Remember, a laser jet printer should not be plugged ever into a UPS as the latter may damaged due to the inadvertent power surges in the former that keeps the fuser assembly warm. Also ensure that all the components are connected properly.
