US CPSC Approves Final Rule for Baby Changing Products’ Safety Standard
Published on June 26, 2018, 16 CFR 1235 – the Safety Standard for Baby Changing Products – has adopted ASTM International’s safety standard ASTM F2388-18 without modifications.
Baby changing products are defined under ASTM F2388-18 as including:
• Changing tables
• Changing table accessories
• Changing unit add-ons
• Contoured changing pads
The main performance requirements from 16 CFR 1235 relate to:
• Requirements for structural integrity
• Stability test
• Requirements for barriers
• Requirements for the retention of contoured changing pads and add-on changing units
• Entrapment in enclosed openings test
• Entrapment by shelves test
• Self-folding steps requirements
• Restraint system requirements
Stakeholders should be aware this mandatory regulation will come into effect on January 2, 2019. It will apply to products manufactured or imported on and after this date.
