Tiamulin Market - Size, Share, Outlook, and Forecast till 2026

Tiamulin is a pleuromutilin antibiotic drug that has wide applications in veterinary medicine for pigs and poultry. Tiamulin is a diterpene antimicrobial with a pleuromutilin chemical structure similar to that of valnemulin.

Growing demand for cattle care in turn, is increasing the demand for tiamulin. This in turn, is responsible for significant growth of the tiamulin market. Increasing number of swine are being treated with Denagard (tiamulin), however, are advised not to have access to feed containing polyether ionophores.

Consumption of tiamulin with monensin, lasalocid, narasin, salinomycin, and semduramicin may result in reactions. The drug does not generally cause adverse effects when consumed at usual doses. However, redness of the skin, primarily over the ham and underline, may be a side-effect, for which animals would be recommended to discontinue the medication. This in turn, poses as a major restrain for growth of the tiamulin market.

When this drug is provided to poultry, it interferes with monensin and salinomycin metabolism, while if fed together, may turn toxic. The drug is readily absorbed from the gut and into the blood within 30 minutes from dosing. This quick absorption rate of tiamulin in turn, is boosting growth of the tiamulin market.

The drug is well-absorbed orally by swine and 2-4 hours post single dosing results in 85% of dose absorption. Tiamulin helps inhibit the action of the enzyme peptidyltransferase, and further results in the inhibition of protein synthesis. Tiamulin is majorly active in vitro against most Gram-positive bacteria, some Gram-negative bacteria, pathogenic Mycoplasma spp., Treponema spp., and Leptospira spp. Resistancy slowly develops in vitro, thus making partial cross-resistance with erythromycin and tylosin possible. After oral administration, tiamulin is quickly absorbed and maximal blood levels are obtained after 2 hours and over 95% of the administered dose is excreted within 72 hours with urine and faeces. This in turn, boosts growth of the tiamulin market.
