We have extremely bad habits when it comes to talking openly about single plastic product alternatives. What it really comes down to is being more aware of our roles we play in the demand creation of plastic product packaging or single use disposable items. Much of the current media conversation circles around big corporate entities and their poor environmental footprints. They are producing plastic scourge purely on our required demands for fast convenience. We could do much better in creating our own inner habits for change. Challenging our ourselves to participate in better environmental alternatives, like reusable straws
Straws may be minor in the larger scope of the picture of plastic pollution scourge, but it has become the battle cry for a larger movement towards single plastic alternatives. We should be championing sustainable alternatives over and above the pressuring of large corporate entities that push straws upon us for their required beverages.

We should look at it more inwards within ourselves and what we can do from an organic personal level of self-regulating our use of plastic products. The idea of no straws is rather callous. We have had straws in our lives for 70+ years. They are required for so many reasons, as our beverage habits from thick shakes, cold Icey soft drinks, specialty teas, warm coffee’s and textured liquids are common in market that require a straw. A reusable straw can be an excellent replacement to an otherwise messy problem. That is where the discussion should pivot towards. What can we replace with sustainable options we can carry on ourselves or leave at home or work!

So, there is a heavy cost on both ends of this straw ban push.
ELO wants users to reuse and break a bad habit. It will become a lot easier for your brain to handle if you challenge to change by using both the straw and app in conjunction of this straw ban transition. Start carrying around your own straws or at best have them at home, work and play!

The idea of carrying reusable items is not a new idea! It’s changing the mindset that is the hurdle. We didn’t think 20 years ago that we would have a 3 by 5-inch communication smartphone in our pocket! But we carry it with us, so why not a straw a little longer then a pen?
