Stockade Works announces new Sound Department Intensive in Kingston; Scholarships provided to local residents

Stockade Works has designed a new Sound Department Intensive to train local residents to work as sound professionals on film crews in our area. The intensive will be led by Emmy-winner Jan McLaughlin ("Nurse Jackie"), Julie Stalker-Wilde ("The Sopranos," "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel") and Teferra McKenzie ("Orange is the New Black," "Limitless”), August 3-5, 2018 at the SUNY Ulster campus in Kingston, NY.

Through hands-on learning with industry standard sound equipment, participants will create sound projects of their own, and develop a working knowledge of set protocols expected of professionals on TV/film sets. Upon successful completion of this intensive, participants will be referable for sound utility positions on upcoming non-union film productions.

“As film and TV productions increase here in the Hudson Valley, we want to make sure local residents are trained to be part of that demand,” according to Beth Davenport, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Stockade Works. “Our sound intensive workshop is a great start for those who are interested in careers in production sound and who may have been traditionally excluded from jobs on the set.”

Stockade Works is a certified 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a mission to Make Local Work – train those who are traditionally excluded from opportunities or are seeking a new career path to pursue. Full scholarships have been provided to attend this workshop.

In addition to our crew boot camp training program and Sound Department Intensive, Stockade Works recently hosted a workshop entitled, “The Art of Movie Magic: Budgeting for Film + Television” with producer Jonathan Burkhart ("I Dream Too Much" (2015), "Peace, Love & Misunderstanding" (2011), "Dazed and Confused" (1993)) at the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck.
