Press release from: Newspatrolling

/ PR Agency: Newspatrolling : Smoothies have become a way of life for health enthusiasts, as these are loaded with a wide variety of essential nutrients. However, you will be surprised to know that not all smoothies are acceptable as per the tenets and principles of Ayurveda. Only some select smoothies are considered good for human health, as per the principles of Ayurveda. These are the ones that are used for Ayurvedic treatment. It is important to note that Ayurveda is not against smoothies; rather, it’s only against certain types of smoothies that do not meet the requirements of Ayurvedic principles.
What's wrong with smoothies?

It is often thought that we are what we eat. This may be true to some extent, but it would be more appropriate if we rephrase it to "we are what we can digest". This is exactly why Ayurveda does not accept all types of smoothies. The ingredients used in the most common smoothie preparations are often incompatible with each other, which is why they may not be digested properly in the body. Foods that you can't digest will just pass through the digestive system without providing anysignificant health benefits. Moreover, if the undigested food is not removed properly from the body due to disorders such as constipation, it may lead to other health issues.

Here are some key reasons why Ayurveda does not recommend all types of smoothies.

Cold foods hamper digestion: Frozen fruits, milk and yogurt are often used to prepare smoothies. As per Ayurveda, cold foods are not suitable for the digestive system. Cold foods hamper the functioning of the digestive system, which leads to undigested food. These can remain in the intestines for extended periods and may lead to other health problems. As per Ayurveda, cold foods affect the Agni (digestive fire), thereby leading to indigestion.

Raw foods are difficult to digest: Using raw vegetables in smoothies can lead to various health issues. Raw vegetables contain various toxins and indigestiblefiber that can harm the digestive system. Furthermore, the undigested vegetables may become breeding ground for harmful parasites. Some vegetables such as cucumber, onions, carrots, tomatoes, etc. may be okay to consume raw, but most other vegetables need to be cooked before they can be blended into smoothies.

Health supplements contain synthetic chemicals: Many people add health supplements to their smoothies such as protein powder to make it more potent and nutritious. Natural food supplements are okay, but factory produced food supplements are likely to contain syntheticchemicals. Often, there is no proper research to prove the safety and effectiveness of these health supplements. These products are not regulated by standard pharmaceutical laws and hence it’s difficult to assesstheir safety and effectiveness. As per Ayurveda, it is essential to stay away from foods that are mass produced in a factory setup.

Excessnutrients: Smoothies also create the risk of consuming too many nutrients. Just like nutritional deficiency, an excess of nutrients can also lead to health issues. A lot many things are blended into smoothies, which may create a heavy load on the digestive system. Some nutrients are automatically removed by the body in case of excess, but other nutrients may create an imbalance. For example, if there’s too much potassium in your body, it can lead to serious health problems such as hyperkalemia.

Ayurveda only recommends special smoothies that can be used as part of Ayurvedic treatment. These are prepared using compatible food items that are stored at room temperature. Things like vegetables are cooked before they are used in smoothies. To know which smoothies will be most suitable for your specific needs, it is recommended that you consult an Ayurveda doctor.
