Literacy Council of Northern Virginia to Honor Local Students,

The Literacy Council of Northern Virginia (LCNV) will host its Annual Recognition Ceremony on June 21, 2018 from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at the James Lee Community Center Theater, 2855 Annandale Road, Falls Church, VA 22042. Three LCNV students will present their essays, based on the theme “Learning English Improves My Life”. Keynote remarks will be delivered by Aimee Cho, NBC4 Washington Reporter. “LCNV cherishes the opportunity to celebrate our inspiring students, and show appreciation to the many volunteers, donors, instructors, and community partners who support them,” says Roopal Mehta Saran, LCNV’s Executive Director.

Community Partnership Awards will be presented to three of LCNV’s partners for their outstanding support of adult literacy:

• Cox Charities
• Fairfax County Office of Public Private Partnerships
• Korean Community Service Center of Greater Washington

LCNV’s Volunteers of the Year will be recognized for their exceptional commitment to LCNV’s mission:

• Margaret Breen and Laura Schell
• Sally Eckard and Bruce Miller
• Douglas “Kim” Lutz

The Ceremony will culminate with the inaugural presentation of the Patricia M. Donnelly Scholarship. A dessert reception will follow. Contact info@lcnv.org or call 703-237-0866 to RSVP.

The Literacy Council of Northern Virginia (Parade magazine’s 2017 Outstanding Charity for Virginia) serves 1,500 adult learners annually with its mission to teach the basic skills of reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English so they can access employment and educational opportunities and more fully and equitably participate in the community. LCNV is one of only a few non-profit organizations in all of Northern Virginia that complies with federal education standards as it serves the most beginning-level adult learner.
