Literacy Council of Northern Virginia Celebrates an English Language Community
NBC Washington Reporter Aimee Cho shared keynote remarks on the challenges of the English language, and the event culminated with the inaugural presentation of the Patricia M. Donnelly Merit Scholarship. Scholarship recipient Faustine Coulibaly stated, “I want to be an example. If you have the motivation to learn, you will succeed.”

The Literacy Council of Northern Virginia (Parade magazine’s 2017 Outstanding Charity for Virginia) serves 1,500 adult learners annually with its mission to teach the basic skills of reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English so they can access employment and educational opportunities and more fully and equitably participate in the community. LCNV is one of only a few non-profit organizations in all of Northern Virginia that complies with federal education standards as it serves the most beginning-level adult learner.
