Clarifiers are the settling tanks used for removal of solids suspended particulates present in water through sedimentation. This is done to enhance the quality of water to meet quality standards for various uses of water. Water clarifiers are machine-operated water treatment tanks in which the sludge or concentrated impurities is discharged from the bottom of the tank and the layer of dirt or froth on the surface of the water is called as scum. A package of chemical-injection releases various categories of chemicals into the water in order to optimize the water treatment process. These chemicals are basically coagulation and flocculation reagents such as ferric sulfate and polyelectrolytes, these partials club together with the preexisting particle and form denser particles called flocs. And due to high-density flocs settle more quickly and are stable in nature, which facilitate the easy and efficient separation of the solid particle by clarifiers.
Owing to its low operation and maintenance cost and optimum output this arrangement is used for various liquid-solid separations in various industries, such as paper and pulp industry, food and beverage industry, oil and gas industry, and chemical and fertilizer. The clarifiers are generally used in municipal wastewater treatment to reduce suspended solid particles and BOD (Biological Oxygen Demand).
