Dropped Calls? Not Here - New Apartments Use Cell Amplifiers to Improve Coverage for Residents

LEESVILLE, LA (July 10, 2006) No more ‘dead spots’, improved sound quality and fewer dropped calls – all included in your rent. It’s not your typical amenity, but this is now one of the technology services that the LAVA Company is providing to residents of their Country Manor Apartments community. The developer has purchased and installed a cellular network booster that provides increased community-wide signal strength.

With many residents abandoning traditional telephone landlines for cell phones and Internet phone services, LAVA was faced with the challenge of providing quality phone services to a very tech-savvy resident base of military officers and families. Based on a recommendation from their Electronic Architects at InfiniSys, Inc., the LAVA Company installed a system comprised of a series of outdoor receivers, signal amplifiers, and indoor broadcast antennas. The outdoor antenna captures the signal from the cellular network, feeds it to the amplifier which boosts the signal and sends it to the indoor antenna, which then distributes it to cell phone users.

Once the booster was installed, the effects were evident immediately. “Before, we would have to go outside to receive a call clearly. If we tried to answer our cell phones in the leasing office, the line would be choppy and crackly. Now, we can stay inside and the call is really clear,” said Tammy Darrah, Certified Apartment Manager and Property Manager at the Country Manor Apartments.

With more and more people opting not to have hard line phone service, reliable cell phone service at home is gaining increasing importance. Each in-building amplifier provides cellular service to as many as sixty users simultaneously. “We realized that the area received low cell phone signals,” said John Jones, Certified Property Manager with the LAVA Company. “We also knew that it would give us a competitive leasing advantage, since residents would no longer be forced to purchase land lines from the local telephone company for home telephone service.”

The high-performance M-TEC cellular amplifier was tested extensively over the past year by InfiniSys at properties in Orlando and Jacksonville prior to the first customer deployment in Leesville.

The 204-unit Country Manor Apartment community is located in Leesville, Louisiana. The LAVA Company, based in McLean, Virginia, plans to expand the site to over 300 units. LAVA can be reached at 703-848-0277.
